Pitching to Luke

Today our group had to pitch to our idea to Luke to see if we would get the green light from him so that we could go ahead with further planning, casting etc for the music video.
I found this process very helpful as Luke gave a lot of useful advice, highlighting the problems with our idea etc.
We took notes of his comments and we also recorded an audio note of everything he said so that we could reflect accurately on his feedback.

Luke's Feedback

We used prezi to make a treatment to help us pitch the idea. That prezi is shown below...

Phil and Luke agreed that currently our idea could go down one of two paths - either go completely with a fun, young and playful feel, or stick with the more sensual, feminine vibe that is present in parts of our current idea. Aspects of our idea such as the pink balloons make our idea seem more playful and fun, and possibly juvenile. We don't want to create a pop video or a pop artist - we think the song is more alternative than that and we don't want our artist's image to be too pop-py. Therefore we need to make sure that any further ideas we come up with completely link with the song and our artist's image.

Luke also said that although we have lots of ideas, not all of the strands are fluid enough and we need to develop more clear narratives that all link together so that we ensure the video is kept interesting for the whole 3 minutes. It's also important that all our strands have a clear connection to each other and that they make sense together and flow together well. He said that currently our idea is a bit like 'cardboard' so our class have agreed to all have a think and a brainstorm over the weekend so that by Monday we have various new ideas to help develop our current strands. We'll then further discuss these and pick which we want to add to the video.

Luke also pointed out that our song is quite long so we'll want to cut it down a bit, to 3minutes rather than 3:47. Therefore we are going to pick which part of the song we think we can take out without affecting the overall sound.

Luke recognised that finding a double bed frame and getting it into the studio might be a bit of a hassle, but didn't say it was impossible. Daisy said she could get a double mattress but we still need to work out where we'll get the bed from.

Overall, apart from some select areas that are in need of improvement, Luke gave our idea the green light and so in the next few lessons we plan to use his constructive criticism to improve and develop our idea. We also plan to start casting and auditions next week.

Because he liked the first idea, we didn't need to pitch the back up idea of the indie rock performance.
