Music Video Idea 1
My first idea is for the song Sunflower by Rex Orange County. This is an upbeat song of the alternative pop genre. There doesn't yet exist a music video for this song.
The artist is a 19 year old boy who's music is similar to Cosmo Pyke/Mac DeMarco/Tyler the Creator. His songs are highly emotional and confessional, so ideally I wanted the video to be set outside but have decided that since I want a happy, sunny mood it won't work because we're shooting in November when its very cold, raining, gloomy etc.
The song's lyrics focus on the artist's love for a girl who seems to have helped him to be a happier, better individual. it is a very youthful song and so I would want the protagonists of the video to be teenagers, saying 16/17 years old. I would want one male and one female protagonist.
One inspiration for this idea was Tyler, the Creator's video for his song Perfect :
This video has a clear colour palette of pinks, yellows and blues. This is the same colour palettes I would want for my video. The use of a split screen format in the video also inspired me to also use a split screen in parts of my video.
I'd want sunflowers to be a recurring image - because of the title and because they are a very happy, bright plant.
I would want the female protagonist to wear all yellow, similar to this look :
Start on a split screen - boy on the left side, he is surrounded by (fake) sunflowers and the wall behind him has a cartoon-y blue sky&cloud pattern on it. On the right side just a shot of the same wall - when the music cuts to quicker and happier (at the 50 second mark), the girl would appear on the right side and they would both be mouthing the lyrics ''I don't wanna see you crying, You don't have to feel this emptiness....' etc. Girl in yellow outfit, flowers all over her hair (like above pic)
((If it is possible to shoot outside, I would want the same split screen edit for the start of the video except the boy and girl would be outside, in a (ideally sunny) meadow for example.
Also, I would want to incorporate shots of the boy and girl lying on their back and looking at the sky, shots of the sky, etc to create the dreamy mood in the video that is present in the song. ))
Not the whole video would be edited in this split screen - Other half is the guy playing guitar, lip syncing. To come out of the split screen edit into a normal one smoothly, the camera would gradually zoom out until the two sides of the screen become one - the Perfect video does manage to do this although it doesn't completely come out of split screen...

Funky set up - do it in the studio - a yellow background - costume of stripey shirt, flat cap - Tyler the Creator kind of look , for example :

I have a few specific, stylised shots in mind - for example on the lyrics 'there's no need to keep an open eye' I would want a close up of the girl's eyes rapidly opening and closing.

With the classic sad boy look, like this guy on the right :
