CD Digipaks and Album Artwork

Image
A CD digipak is a modern, stylish alternative to the standard CD Jewel Case. They are a custom printed card packaging that can hold one or more CDs. CD Digipaks give a product an expensive professional look and feel. Originally, they were only seen as limited edition products. However, due to improvements in CD production and packaging printing techniques, Digipaks are now available at much lower prices. The most common CD Digipaks is the 4 panel Digipak which opens like a book, shown here : However 6 panel CD Dipipaks are also very popular, providing a larger canvas for CD artwork and text information about the CD. In this post I will be analysing two CD albums, firstly Currents by Tame Impala. This album was not the band's first release - by the time it came out in 2015, the band had already enjoyed success with their previous albums and thus had built a large fanbase. This probably accounts for the fact that they did not need to have a picture of themselve...

Artist Websites and Homepage

Image
What is the point of websites and homepages? To promote the artist, to give information about them to the general public, to market their new music/music video, to sell merchandise that people can buy to further build up hype around the artist, to show concert dates, to create a star image, or to create an ideology/message. What does an artist's homepage need to have and why? All of these features help to promote the artist, encourage people to buy their music/merch, and create a star image. Websites can be used to create an ideology for the artist, and can hint at the genre of their music, i.e. rock band = lots of dark colours. For this blog post, I will compare the websites of two artists of di...

Lip Sync Exercise

Image
To prepare for the lip sync exercise, Katie told us a week before which song we would be lip syncing to and we all made sure to learn the lyrics so that our lip syncing would be accurate and realistic on the day. The song was 'Shape of You' by Ed Sheeran. The aim of this exercise was to get us acquainted with lip syncing and editing to make the sure the syncing looks realistic, as this is a challenge we will have to face next year when making our music videos. In the studio, we had three different areas - one with a sofa and a green screen, another with a blue wall and fireplace and finally a blank white wall with coloured lights. For the third location we used a dolly to create a tracking shot. We all had a go at using the dolly. The person operating the dolly is called the 'dolly grip.' In order to cut the video, we went to the edit suite and Matt taught us two methods for editing the lip syncing clips : 1. Use the snare, which plays before the song starts, in...
